                             Secretariat Minutes
August 6, 2016                   Barry County Museum, Cassville

  • Meeting opened by Vice-Rector Carrie Hastings, leading in the prayer for the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

  • Minutes of previous meeting approved by e-mail and posted on the website.

  • There was discussion concerning the outreach effort. David Gilmer was chosen to head the work on the brochure and Eric Adams will work on the DVD. Building leaders to return to their churches needs to be emphasized. David will try to have a sample brochure at the Sept. picnic.  We need to target younger people and possibly some who were resistant to attending Camino (in addition to those Bob has called) to interview for the video. Hood Church can be used for making the video, if needed. We need pricing on printing of brochure and DVD (check tax exempt status at Office Depot).

  • There has been no progress on the by-laws.

  • Treasurer’s report: The balance is $1666.61 but doesn’t include participant fees.

  • There may be additional work needed on the truck.

  • Brad and Wanda both came in under food budget. Wanda suggested that we need to consider using per person budget versus weekend budget. It was recommended tabling discussion concerning fees for churches that we wait until we have more information about the cost for the church per weekend. Wanda and Jeanne will try to find out cost to the churches for the last two weekends.

  • The website renewal fee of $300 is due on Sept. 12.

  • There are several issues concerning the recording equipment.  The severe temperature fluctuations are damaging the components and wiring of the sound equipment. Rick will get estimates on cost of complete wireless equipment. We need to find a way to store equipment besides on the truck.

  • We need to replace pictures for Stations of the Cross.
  • We also need to work on new songbooks. Cindy suggested that we need to purchase more “Freds.” Jeanne stated that we need more stuff on the truck for Altars and Chapels.

  • Barb is writing thank-you notes to the churches, pastors, janitors, etc. for the weekends.

  • Bob suggested that we be in prayer for pastors that no longer involved in the Camino movement,  that they will be willing to be involved again.

  • Don Bates asked whose responsibility is lost and found from last weekend.

  • Rick purchased a new Bible and crosses for Camino. Rick, Wayne, and David will make stands for the crosses.

  • Next meeting is the picnic at J.R. Martin park in Republic on September 10, with Secretariat at 3, Consuno at 4, and Consumo at 5. Deanna will bring ice, tea, and lemonade. Cindy will bring plates, Barb will bring cups, Gilmers’ will bring tableware, Hastings will bring napkins, Jeanne will bring dessert plates.

  • Next weekend will be in February at West Plains UMC. Workday will be Feb. 4, men’s weekend Feb. 16-19, women’s weekend will be Feb. 23-26. We will go back to our original numbers of 10 for each weekend.

Testimony

  • Camino:   I've repeatedly seen the transforming effects of this ministry in the lives of Christian folks around the region.  While it does not endorse a faith group (denomination) it strongly encourages everyone to become active in their local church by attending, giving, and sharing their faith.  There is ample opportunity for individual expressions of faith and enormous time blocked out for just hearing God's word publicly read. That's refreshing.  If you participate in Camino you will, inevitably be challenged to grow.  That is both scary and exciting.  I know of people leading in their church, preaching, teaching, singing, and serving who were only "bench-warmers" prior to Camino.  It is encouraging and life-changing.  God is Good!
