Secretariat Minutes - March 12, 2016 - St. Paul’s UMC - Joplin, MO

Meeting called to order by Acting Rector, Cindy Shelley. Meeting opened with the prayer for the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

David Gilmer moved, Barb Groves seconded, to elect Bob Legler as Rector of Secretariat. Motion passed.

The results of the voting for Secretariat members: The top two vote-getters from the community are JeanneRichardson and Barb Groves. The three members elected from the weekend committee are Bob Legler, David Gilmer, and Carrie Hastings. Members in attendance: Cindy Shelley, Max Raney, Jeanne Richardson, Barb Groves, Bob Legler, David Gilmer, Carrie Hastings. Others in attendance: Deanna Cheek, Wayne Cheek Vickie Gilmer, Denise Schnabl, Doris Heistand, Becky Bean, Rick Bean, Missy Bean, Angie Adams, Jason Istas, Jo Lovejoy.

Bob asked how we can get more participants. Max can contact pastors but they need assistance from the community.

Jeanne expressed concern over the two rectors (Weekend and Secretariat) that resigned. We need to be really mindful of how each member is treated.

Bob nominated Carri Hastings as Vice-Rector. Cindy seconded. Motion carried.

Bob called for volunteers to serve on the committee to work on by-laws. Vicki will report on progress next month. Volunteers that were suggested  to serve are Vickie Gilmer, Wayne Cheek, Don Bates, Wanda Byrd, Jo Lovejoy, Cindy Shelley, Bob Legler, Amy Turner, and Max Raney.

David said that we need to follow through on talking up Camino. Max said it would be a good idea to put a reminder of the deadline for participant applications on the web site.

Deanna will send the minutes of the meetings to the members of the Secretariat ahead of the next meeting and get their approval (and or corrections) right away so the minutes can be posted on the website.

The numbers of participants was discussed again and it was agreed that it is too early to make any decision at this time. We should push for the minimum of 10 or more participants for both the men’s and women’s weekends in July. If we are short of participants for either one, we would address the situation at that time.

The next  Consuno will be at West Plains UMC on April 2 with Secretariat at 4, Consumo at 5 and Consuno at 6. May Consuno will be at Hartville.
